ActiveSync is the synchronization program by Microsoft for Windows Mobile and other Windows CE-based devices. Version 3.0 was introduced with Palm-sized PCs and 3.1 was introduced with Pocket PC. The current version is 3.8, but one should always check one's build number. The current Beta version is ActiveSync 4.0.

Major releases
- ActiveSync 4.0 (Developer Preview Release)
- ActiveSync 4.0 no longer allows synchronisation via exposed TCP/IP connections (such as WiFi, LAN or Dial-up). Wide Area synchronisation is now only supported in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange Server under Windows Mobile devices. These changes have no affect on Personal Area synchronisation such as Infrared, Serial, USB or Bluetooth.
