American Public Media is the brand under which Minnesota Public Radio distributes public radio programming outside of the state of Minnesota. American Public Media's most recognizable weekend programming is Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion program. American Public Media's most recognizable weekday programming is Marketplace.

Historical ties to Public Radio International

Formerly, much of American Public Media's programming content was distributed by Public Radio International, which itself was formerly named American Public Radio (Network) until 01 July 1994. The former name of PRI (American Public Radio) and the current branding of MPR (American Public Media) are apparently unrelated, despite their similarity. However, APR was formed by Bill Kling to distribute A Prairie Home Companion, but it was designed as a consortium of multiple public radio stations. In contrast to PRI, who both creates, produces, and distributes content, APM only distributes content that it owns, with the sole exception of the BBC Proms.

Programs distributed by American Public Media

Several specials are also distributed by APM on a less frequent basis, including a number of Christmas programs and the BBC Proms.
