Asif Ali Zardari is the husband of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was sacked from office twice on charges of corruption while Asif Zardari remained a senator.

He was the deputy prime minister in his wife's government and acquired the nickname Mr. Ten Per Cent for the size of the cut he allegedly demanded on every deal.

He was jailed in 1997 on charges ranging from corruption to murder, being released in November 2004 [1]. He was rearrested on 21 December, 2004 after he did not attend a hearing in a murder trial in Karachi. He is charged with conspiracy in the 1996 killing of a judge and his son.

In August 2004 Asif Zardari admitted owning a £4.35m estate in Surrey, England (including a 20-room mansion and two farms on 365 acres, or 1.5 km², of land) which the Pakistani authorities say was bought with the proceeds of corruption.
