Auron is a playable character in the Square RPG Final Fantasy X (2001). Known in the world of Spira as a "Legendary" Guardian on account of him being the only guardian known to have survived the process of defeating the behemoth Sin, Auron has become a blunt, terse and self-shielded guardian who knows more about the pilgrimage than he lets on to his fellow travelers. </br>

His sword, though called a Katana (referred to as a "blade" in the game) is not thin like its Japanese counterpart, and is in fact bulky enough to be compared to a Zanbatou. On his right hip, he carries a jug that resembles a Tokkuri decanter, presumably containing sake; however, the word 'Nog' is written on it, which was a heavily brewed ale in early England and thus made a Spiran liquor. One might guess that Auron drinks the alcoholic beverage to attempt to escape his troubled past, but in fact he does not drink often and is not an alcoholic (Jecht already filled that role--and Auron obviously drank before Braska and Jecht's deaths), instead using it aggressively by spitting it onto his sword to perform his Overdrives 'Banishing Blade' and 'Tornado.' Considering how destructive these attacks can be, one wonders if whatever is in the flask is suitable for human consumption when not in battle.

As a young man (twenty-five years old), Auron was a warrior monk of Bevelle until he was discharged for refusing the hand of the priest's daughter. He resided in the city of Zanarkand for a period of ten years following his successful pilgrimage, during which he watched over Tidus as a promise to his friend Jecht. He also promised his deceased lord Braska that he would take Yuna to Besaid to keep her far away from the conflicts and devastation caused by Sin. Eventually, Auron helped transport the game's protagonist and inhabitant of Zanarkand, Tidus, to Spira.

Auron acts primarily as a window into the past and a guide for Tidus and thus, the player. At certain critical points in the story, his directness and experience help to hold the group together at the expense of appearing crass and insensitive.

During a devastating assault on the city of Zanarkand, Auron informs Tidus that the assailant is a beast that "they" called "Sin". Tidus and Auron are separated inside Sin's vortex and the guardian doesn't return to the story until the player reaches the city of Luca.

At a high point in the game, Auron reveals to Tidus that he is an Unsent. After Jecht became the Final Aeon and Braska gave his life, Auron refused to accept what had happened and went berserk. Blinded by rage, he went to Zanarkand to challenge Yunalesca, but she struck him down--after that, barely alive, he somehow managed to crawl his way down Gagazet. His strength left him just outside Bevelle. There, Kimahri found him, and Auron asked him to find Yuna and take her to Besaid.

At the game's finale, Yuna sends the aeons and Yu Yevon, but Auron, being nearby, is inadvertently caught in the ritual. She wants to refuse, but the guardian tells her it's alright for her to continue, having 'played at life too long', and then he is sent to the Farplane to rest at last.

Auron in Final Fantasy X-2

Auron makes a voice appearance in the final part of Final Fantasy X-2 along with Braska, Jecht and the Fayth, giving Yuna encouraging words and advice in the final battle against Shuyin and Vegnagun.

The only visual appearances that Auron makes are during a brief flashback in Chapter 5 when Maechen's memories are scrambled as he ascends to the Farplane, as well as a short scene with Gippal in the key item "Gippal's Sphere" set during the events of Final Fantasy X.

Auron in Kingdom Hearts II

Due to his popularity, Nomura added Auron to his Kingdom Hearts II project. In the game's demo, Hades summons Auron to fight Sora for him. However, Auron refuses to obey and helps Sora fight Hades and Cerberus instead.
