Cait Sith

"Cait Sith" is a spelling variation of Cait Sidhe, a cat-like demon appearing in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic mythology. This figure has inspired many characters in Japanese games, most notably the Final Fantasy series of RPGs, wherein "Cait Sith" (rather than "Cait Sidhe") is used as the official Romanization.
Cait Sith's video game appearances include the following:
- A genjuu, or Esper, in Final Fantasy VI. (The English localization changed the name to "Stray".)
- A stuffed robotic cat, and playable character, in Final Fantasy VII.
- A costume, Rikku's "Mascot" Dressphere, in Final Fantasy X-2.
- A mischievious cat-like demon in Princess Maker, but whether or not this is really a reference to the Cait Sidhe of legend is debatable.
It has also made appearances in other video games, such as Culdcept, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness,
The name "Cait Sith" is represented in katakana as ケット・シー (ketto shī). This indicates an intended pronunciation, while perhaps not entirely accurate, of [kɛt ʃi].
