Emilio Marcos Palma (born January 7, 1978) was the first person to have been born on the continent of Antarctica. He was born farther south than anyone else in history. He was born to Argentine parents in FortÃn Sargento Cabral at the Esperanza Base near the tip of the Antarctic peninsula. Since his parents were Argentine, and he was born in an Argentine base, he was immediately granted Argentine citizenship. He is featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the only person in history known to be the first born on a continent.
