Escudo

Escudo is the name of the currency in Cape Verde.

It was also the name of several former units of currency, including the Portuguese escudo (used in several Portuguese colonies), the Chilean escudo and the Spanish silver escudo and gold escudo.

The name is derived from the word meaning shield.
