Islamic party

(Redirected from Islamic parties)

An Islamic party is a political party that promotes Islam as a political movement by offering nominees for election in a democracy - of which there are several in the Islamic world. They are important to distinguish from militant Islamic groups which may not necessarily run for election. Islamic parties may, on occasion, resort to militant strategies (such as in the case of the Muslim Brotherhood).

Islamic parties may vary from extreme fundamentalists, such as the theocratic Islamic Revolution of Iran, to parties which conform to constituionally enforced secular democratic ideals, such as in the case of the moderate Islamic Ak party in Turkey.
