His Excellency Sir James Beethoven Carlisle (born August 5, 1937) is the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda. He was appointed on June 10, 1993. He was born in the village of Bolans, Antigua. Carlisle attended the Northampton College of Technology and studied dentistry at the University of Dundee, both in the United Kingdom.
Sir James is a Seventh-day Adventist and as such does not carry out duties on the Sabbath or serve alcohol to guests. He has a wife, Nalda Amelia, who is styled Her Excellency Lady Carlisle.
