Laponia

Laponia was a historical Swedish province or landskap in the north of Sweden-Finland until 1809, when Finland was ceded by Russia, and the province split into Swedish Lapland and Finnish Lapland. Today the Swedish province serves no administrative purpose, but the Finnish still does.
Other uses
- Lapp is the old name of the native Sami people and Lapland is the commonly used name of their habitat, covering the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
- In Sweden, a part of the Lapp native habitat, the Laponian area, a large untouched wilderness, is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
