Midlothian (Meadhan Lodainn in Gaelic) is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, and a Lieutenancy Area. It borders onto South Lanarkshire, Scottish Borders, East Lothian, City of Edinburgh and West Lothian.
It is also a traditional county, which borders West Lothian to the west, Lanarkshire and Peeblesshire to the south, and Berwickshire and East Lothian to the east. It includes the city of Edinburgh, and is sometimes known as Edinburghshire.
