National Bank of Serbia
The National bank of Serbia (NBS) was founded in 1884 under the name Privileged National Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia (Привилегована народна банка Краљевине Србије).The organisation of the NBS was based upon the model of National bank of Belgium which was in those days an example of a modernly organised banking institution.
After WWI and constitution of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the NBS grew into Privileged National Bank of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
During WWII (April 1941 - October 1944.) the Bank functioned from its London office. In September 1946, bank was nationalised and renamed as the "National Bank of Yugoslavia".
As of 2005, as prescribed by the Law on the Implementation of the Constitutional Charter of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, the National Bank of Yugoslavia works as an institution of Republic of Serbia under the name of the National bank of Serbia.
