This article is about a modified version of the Arabic alphabet; for a complete description of the scripts that have been used to write Persian language through the history, see scripts used for Persian.
The script used for Persian language is a modified form of the Arabic alphabet, with a few extra letters. A slightly further modified form is used for Urdu.
Although in the first glance they may seem similiar but however there are many differences on how the different languages use the alphabets.
For example similiar words are written differently in Persian and Arabic as they are used differently.
In Persian there are four more letters, p (paper), g (goal), ch [ʧ] (chair), zh [ʒ] (measure):

Urdu adds additional letters, including retroflex consonants:
