Pipeline
The word pipeline has many meanings:
- A pipeline transport is a conduit made from pipes connected end-to-end. It is used mostly to transport fluids like water or petroleum over long distances.
- A pipeline in computer science, electrical engineering, and general manufacturing is used as a metaphor for a chain of transformative stages where the output of one stage is input for the next one.
- Pipelining in computing increases the overall throughput of the system by breaking up a large batch computation into smaller ones which can be executed independently.
- The Banzai Pipeline is a surfing spot on Oahu's North Shore famous for enormous, gaping, fast-breaking waves thrown up by winter swells.
- Pipeline is a 1963 song by surf rock band The Chantays.
