Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is the first sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It is due to be released in the USA on July 7 2006.
Like the first film, it will star Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swan. Director Gore Verbinski, writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have also committed to work on the film.
The legendary rocker Keith Richards, model for Depp's flamboyant pirate persona, had originally agreed to appear in a cameo role as Jack Sparrow's father, but unfortunately had to pull out due to a commitment with the Rolling Stones concert tour [1]. Stellan Skarsgård is going to play the role of Will Turner's father, William 'Bootstrap Bill' Turner. (HINT: If you watch Keith Richards in an interview, you will find that he has almost identical mannerisms)
Filming began on February 28 2005 with locations once again in the Costa Alegre, in Jalisco (Mexico), and will likely include some location shooting in St. Vincent, where the first film was shot. The filmmakers are shooting the two sequels back-to-back, à la The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions as well as Back to the Future Part II and Part III. Because of this, filming is not expected to end until December 2005.
At recent Disney Investor Conference Studio Presentation, new details came out about the two sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The second is headed for a summer 2007 release theatrically, and the first will be called Dead Man's Chest, as it has been rumoured since late last year.

Plot
Captain Jack (Depp) owes a blood debt to the legendary Davy Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If Jack can't figure a crafty way out of this one, he'll be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation. Jack's problems merge with the wedding plans of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who are quickly involved with the misadventures of Sparrow.
The plot is expected to have a link with voodoo.
In a BBC Radio 1 interview, Orlando Bloom mentions that there is a major set piece featuring the legendary Kraken.[2]
Controversy
Walt Disney Pictures has been questioned by the National Garifuna Council, a representative body of the Garifuna people, for the racist portrayal of the Calinago, or Caribs, as cannibals in "Dead Man's Chest." Despite the call for a fair and accurate representation, Disney has responded that the script cannot be altered, and at this point, no known changes have been made to rectify any potential defamation of the Carib people's character and history.
