Sweatbox
"Sweatbox" is a Disney animators' term for the screening room where directors and producers approve or reject animated scenes in pencil test form, as well as for this process itself, also sometimes called sweatboxing. It originates from the beginning of Walt Disney Animation, where those tests where shown to Walt Disney on a Moviola in a small, non-ventilated room. The animators, awaiting a verdict, perspired both because of the climate and fearing a possible negative reaction. When the animation studio relocated to Burbank and much more comfortable screening rooms were installed, the name still stuck.
The Sweatbox is also the title of a documentary about the difficult process of creating Disney's animated feature The Emperor's New Groove. The film was directed by Trudie Styler, wife of musician Sting, who served as the composer of the films' songs (all of which but one were cut during production, as shown in the film).
