  • A technique is a way of efficiently accomplishing a task in a manner that is not immediately obvious or straightforward. Hence

  3. In art technique includes tools, processes, structures, forms, and details, as well as the manner in which those are used and put together, one example being collage
  4. In music, technique refers to the manner of playing an instrument, as well as the tools and manner of composition and precomposition, see also: extended technique
  • Technique is also the title of a 1989 New Order album.
  • The Technique is also a commonly used shorthand referring to the Alexander Technique by those who study it. It was a name that was assigned for the work of F.M. Alexander after his death by his students and teachers he trained. Alexander refused to give his discoveries and his lifetime of work on them a more descriptive name. During his lifetime he referred to it as The Work.
