The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is a spin-off of the Oscar-nominated computer-animated movie; Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, first officially aired in September 2002. This is also the first computer-animated Nicktoon. The series is animated by DNA Productions in Dallas, Texas, as was the movie. A television movie, Win, Lose and Kaboom, formerly named You Bet Your Life Form, aired on Nickelodeon in early-July 2004. A second television movie, The League of Villains, aired on Nickelodeon in mid-June 2005. In 2004, head writer Steven Banks was nominated for a Writer's Guild Award for the episode Rescue Jet Fusion. The first Jimmy Neutron mini-episodes aired before the Jimmy Nuetron movie and can be only be seen on NickToons TV.

The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is about a kid inventor named Jimmy Neutron, in the town of Retroville, Texas, who gets in and out of trouble by inventing far-out gadgets. Jimmy's main catchphrases are "Gotta Blast!", and "Brain Blast!". Jimmy typically has a "Brain Blast" once an episode at the climax of the story when all other ideas have failed.

Setting

The show primarily takes place in Retroville, Texas as well as many other exotic locations, including Egypt, outer space, and pre-historia.

Main characters

• James "Jimmy" Isaac Neutron is the main character and the show's title character. He is a genius inventor whose inventions tend to cause more destruction than help, and its always up to Jimmy to save the day against his own creations. His name is a spoof of the scientist Isaac Newton. His amazing inventions include self-folding pants that put themselves away, hi-tech binoculars (called Neutrascopes), his mechanical dog, Goddard, a Cheese Ray that can transform things into cheese, a time booth for traveling to the past (constructed from a phone booth, tiny talking robots called Nanobots, invented from the same chip used to make the self-folding pants, gum that allows one to breathe underwater, called Neutronic air gum, gum that allows one to read memorize an entire book by chewing it, candy that uses every possible pleasure taste bud, a flying rocket as well as a flying hover-car, and many more. He has an extensive laboratory below his clubhouse which is accessed via hair DNA scan. His best friends are Carl Wheezer and Sheen Estevez. Jimmy has a crush on Betty Quinlan, as well as Cindy Vortex, although he denies the second. Jimmy is voiced by Debi Derryberry

• Hugh Beaumont Neutron is Jimmy's father. Somewhat oblivious and childish at times, he always has a piece of fatherly advice for his genius son. His name is a spoof of the actor who played the father in Leave it to Beaver. Like many of the Neutron characters Hugh has his humorous obsessions, such as pie, butter pats, and ducks. He invented a holiday based upon pie, known as Pule (Combination of pie and Yule). At a young age, he was an Acorn Lad scout, and encourages his son to follow suit. Hugh was given the esteemed name of Towel Boy in Junior High. Hugh Neutron is a fan favorite almost at the level of Jimmy himself. He is voiced by Mark DeCarlo.

• Judy Neutron is Jimmy's mother. Smart and full of common sense, she is amused with the many antics of her husband. Like a typical mother, she is often pre-occupied with tidying up. Judy is voiced by Megan Cavanagh.

• Goddard is Jimmy's robotic dog, equal parts useful tool and best friend. Goddard is one of Jimmy's few successful invenstions. He can do many things, including blow up and re-assemble himself after being told to "play dead". Goddard is voiced by Frank Welker, and named after Robert Goddard, rocket pioneer.

• Carlton "Carl" Ulysses Wheezer is Jimmy's neurotic, llama-loving friend. According to canon, Carl was born in 1991. Carl is known as nervous, timid and suffering from hypochondria; at times, he tries to overcome these personality traits in order to appear "cooler" around Jimmy and mutual friend Sheen Estevez. When his parents expanded their cable lineup, Carl found himself focusing on a channel devoted to llamas and a show called Llama Boy; he has adored them ever since, going so far as to join a fan club, the Llama Love Society. He is allergic to just about everything, perhaps including Llamas. Has an odd taste in women and even stranger crushes on both Mrs. Neutron and even Mrs. Fowl. His blood type is O Negative. Carl Wheezer has a sensitive scabula. Voiced by Rob Paulsen.

  Sheen Juarerra Estevez is Jimmy's hyperactive friend, is twelve years old, making him two years older than Jimmy and Carl. The three are in the same school grade because Sheen was held back. Sheen's wardrobe largely consists of a blue t-shirt and jeans. The t-shirt depicts UltraLord, a popular superhero within the show that Sheen is obsessed with. Sheen is of Mexican ethnicity, but does not have a noticeable accent. The name "Sheen Estevez" appears to be a reference to the Estevez family of actors — specifically the three members, Ramón, Emilio, and Carlos, who use the screen name Sheen (Martin and Charlie Sheen, respectively). Voiced by Jeff Garcia, who also won an Annie award for the role.

  Cynthia Aurora "Cindy" Vortex is Jimmy's semi-sassy mouthed rival/companion who is skilled in both the fine arts of Tai Chi and Taekwondo. Although she is not exactly an inventor (except for her "Sweat Socks Transmogrifier), she can build amazingly humongous chocolate volcanoes that engulf the helpless gumdrop citizens of Pompeii, with ease. Cindy schemes to be popular, as seen in Out Darn Spotlight, and used to be the town's resident genius. Has shown obvious but reluctant friendship toward Jimmy and a host of other nerds including the malicious Stritch. She's obviously in love with Jimmy, but treats him like absolute muck to hide her true feelings (a la Helga G. Pataki of Hey Arnold!). Usually calls Jimmy "Nerdtron" or some other such name. In "Stranded", it is revealed that nobody knew that Cindy knew Jimmy's real name! In the hour long crossover special, The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour, Cindy develops feelings for Timmy Turner. Recently she seems to be becoming a very slightly more gentle mellowed out character. Voiced by Carolyn Lawrence.
• Liberty "Libby" Danielle Folfax is Cindy's best friend. She is African American, and she loves music and experiences withdrawal when not constantly exposed. Somewhat intellectual, and obsessed with electronic gadgets. Related to Egyptian Queen Howsaboutislapya, as seen in the episode "Beach Party Mummy", where she received a brand new hair makeover to look like the Queen of the Nile. She has kept it ever since. She is 11, and also Sheen's (sometimes reluctant) girlfriend, by some twist of fate. Voiced by Crystal Scales.

• Ms. Winifred Fowl is 5th grade teacher at Retroville's middle school. Attracts the oddest men: was married to a werewolf at some point, danced with President Calvin Coolidge and once dated Thomas Edison after Jimmy brought the famed scientist to the future. Resembles a large bird both in her hooked nose and tendency to squawk, hence the name. Voiced by Andrea Martin.

• Nick Dean is the "cool" kid at school, of Latino descent. Often seen on a skateboard, doing dangerous tricks. He doesn't do show and tell, and is obsessed with styling his hair. Breaks his leg from time to time on his skateboard. Voiced by Candi Milo.

Episodes

Before the Nicktoon Jimmy Neutron aired, it was going to be a movie. This was advertised with mini-episodes of the present-day show, which followed almost the same plot. Many of these episodes were re-made in a 11-minute format for the actual TV series. This "show" didn't run for very long, yet it gave Jimmy Neutron's gadget list a head start.

NOTE: In the episode The N-Men, the footage pictures were changed to have footage from seasons 2 and 3, Carl's scream for help (from episode When Pants Attack) is replaced by the robot pointing a gun (from the Tomorrow Boys). These changes were not permanent. Many shows have changed their opening scenes in newer seasons, Rugrats being one of them.
