Thread
The word thread has many meanings:
- A thread is a kind of thin yarn, which is thin fibers spun together. It is used in manufacture of textiles and in sewing.
- "Thread" is another name for the blade of a propeller.
- A thread (computer science) is a sequence of instructions which may execute in parallel with other threads.
- A thread is a string of consecutive message postings to a newsgroup, mailing list or Internet forum.
- A thread in the Dragonriders of Pern series of science fiction novels is an extremely destructive mindless alien spore.
- A screw thread turns rotation into linear movement by means of a ridge running in a spiral down the length of a cylinder. A screw has a thread, as does a bolt on a nut (hardware).
- Threads was a 1984 BBC docudrama, concerning the after-effects of a nuclear attack on Sheffield.
- Thread is the name of a band.
