Treaty of Montevideo

There have been several treaties signed in Montevideo.

In a treaty signed on August 27, 1828, after British mediation, Brazil and Argentina recognized the independence of Uruguay.

The 1960 Treaty of Montevideo established the ALALC organization , the Latin American Free Trade Association. It was followed in 1980 by a treaty transforming ALALC into ALADI (Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración).
