Demographics

In 2000, it had a population of 462,385 and the population density was 87/km².

The majority of the population are Romanians - over 98%, with small minorities of Rromas (Gypsies).

Geography

This county has a total area of 5,318 km².

The county lies on a plane, being crossed by the Prut River on the East and by the Bârlad River an affluent of the Siret River.

Economy

A heavily industrialised county during the communist period, Vaslui county has a heritage of big industrial complexes, which went broke during the 1990's. Today, the county is mainly an agricultural one, also having some industry concentrated in the main towns.
