Washington and Jefferson College

Washington and Jefferson College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college located in Washington, Pennsylvania. The college has an enrollment of approximately 1,300 students.

W&J was founded in 1781 and is the oldest institution of higher learning west of the Allegheny Mountains. W&J was granted a Phi Beta Kappa chapter in 1913.

Notable Alumni

Distinguished alumni include James G. Blaine, a candidate for President of the United States, Alberto Vilar, a prominent investment banker, and John S. Reed, interim president of the New York Stock Exchange. Nineteenth-century song writer Stephen Foster is said to have attended W&J but left partway through.
