World Taekwondo Federation
Categories: Martial arts organizations
The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) is a governing body for the sport and martial art of Taekwondo. It was established in Korea on May 28, 1973. It is now the more popular of the two main federations (the other being the ITF).
The WTF successfully lobbied to make Taekwondo an official Olympic sport beginning in 2000, and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations. Because of its focus on safe sparring tournaments, it has been criticized for de-emphasizing combat or self-defense training.
